Grip (pronounced "Greep") is a small island that has been used for
fishing since the 15th century. Today, the homes are used as summer
cottages, but some fishing is still based here. Due severe winter
storms, the island has been wiped out numerous times throughout history.
The
church on the island was built in approximately 1300 with the altar
from 1515 and frescos painted on the timber walls in 1620. The steeple
is currently undergoing a renovation.
It is a beautiful island with
bright-colored houses; some built on top of original wooden foundations.

This was my
first dive site in Norway. I was able to spear an orange-spotted flounder,
a ballan wrasse, and a small pollock. More info on the fish and diving
is on the
marine life/diving page.
